Horrific accident happened during a break at the Mad Cool Festival in Spain as Pedro Aunión Monroy, who lived in Brighton, died as a result of 100ft fall.
Performing just before the Green Day’s show on stage, the acrobat was descending in an illuminated box when he fell to the ground.
Green Day have been criticized for playing a show just 25 minutes later.
People criticized the festival’s organizers to let the show go on after such tragedy.
An official statement from the organizers’ Twitter feed, posted overnight, said: ‘Mad Cool Festival regrets the terrible accident that an aerial dancer has suffered during the second day of the festival.‘
For security reasons, the festival decided to continue with the event. We offer our sincere condolences to the dead man’s family.
‘Today we will pay tribute to the artist during the festival.‘
Billie Joe Armstrong issued a statement on their website regarding this incident. He said that Green Day were unaware of the incident and had they know they would have not performed.
